Walk to Amalfi from this exclusive historic house, with stunning original features, sea-view terraces and a heated mini-pool with 3 hydromassage jets and waterfall
For total immersion in the enchanting atmosphere of the Amalfi Coast, welcome to Villa Margherita. Set amidst lemon-scented slopes, the villa climbs up the side of a hill, above a series of small beaches, with breathtaking views across hillsides covered in olive groves and vineyards, to the sparkling blue sea. Despite its panoramic position, the villa is conveniently located only 900m from Amalfi.
Amire the stunning views from the picturesque stone mini-pool and dine al fresco on the terraces, with some of the best views of Amalfi. A long, narrow terrace also connects the three bedrooms.
Beautifully restored to preserve the romantic vaulted ceilings, ancient beams and original hand-crafted plaster walls, the interiors are equally stunning. The bathrooms boast elegant travertine tiles and washbasins, and the bedrooms and dining area boast remarkable period furniture. Situated on the 1st floor of a house, the villa has two entrances: to the west a small studio/living room with kitchenette; to the east the so-called 'blue entrance', in the oldest part of the house, with another kitchenette and a beautiful chestnut wood table.
The villa retains many period elements, characterised by refined simplicity and traditional building techniques: vaulted, barrel and ogival cross vaulted ceilings; restored original wooden lintels and doors; irregular stone walls and plasterwork made exclusively with traditional mortars, the result of thousands of years of experience in masonry art, composed of local lime, pumice and red earth; the old beaten lime and pumice of the vaulted roof; the blue/green plastering of some of the rooms, partly original, the result of superimpositions that have occurred over the centuries, which in the western entrance, allow one to imagine the sea in the only room where it cannot be admired.
Interior and furniture in minimal style made by the best local craftsmen
The BLUE ENTRANCE from which one enters the SKY and SUN rooms, characterised by irregular plasterwork and blue/green finishes that in many parts are still the original ones. These, too, have been restored by master restorers/decorators Franco De Stefano and Michele Pontillo.
Eighteenth-century chestnut fratino table and kitchenette with top made of antique "riggiole". Travertine sink, induction hob and refrigerator with drawers.
BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS
-Bedroom 1 (with bathroom): this is the large suite with king-size bed and sofa bed. It can accommodate up to four people (preferably two adults and two children). Separate entrance from Via Maestra dei Villaggi or from the second bedroom.
Terrace at the entrance with view to the east over a romantic garden with centuries-old olive trees and to the south overlooking the sea, with open-air shower and stone hydromassage tub with water blade and 3 hydro stations.
Entrance hall with kitchenette and mini-bar.
Windowed vaulted ceiling.
Large single-leaf steel window frames, minimal profile.
Wrought iron canopy bed made by the blacksmith artist Erasmo D'Amato of Maiori.
An antique dresser.
-Bathroom 1: Bathroom with two rain shower heads, wall decorated with antique "riggiole", freestanding washbasin in travertine, carved by local craftsman, ceiling in antique chestnut beams.
- Bedroom 2 (with bathroom): CIELO is the central bedroom, with a fascinating finish created by master restorers/decorators Franco De Stefano and Michele Pontillo, who were inspired by the blues and greens of yesteryear, of which there are still traces in some parts. CIELO is dominated by an imposing and austere ogival cross vault, left with its original medieval plasterwork in view. The ancient beams once supported the typical loft of peasant houses. Standard bed with fabric headboard. Antique flap with "secrets" typical of this type of period furniture. Steel window frame with minimal profile. Sea-view terrace. The CIELO room, together with the space now used as a bathroom, is the oldest part of the house, dating back to medieval times.
- Bathroom 2: Bathroom with French window overlooking the sea and vaulted ceiling, large shower with rainfall shower head, two basins travertine washbasin, wall decorated with antique Neapolitan "riggiole".
- Bedroom 3 (with bathroom): SOLE is the very bright bedroom with sea view, with independent entrance, to the west, from salita Pomicara. Internal access door opens onto the blue entrance hall which serves as a small study/living area and offers a kitchenette with sink, induction hob, fridge with drawers, coffee machine, ice machine and crockery. Private terrace with sea view. King bed with fabric headboard. Period chest of drawers.
- Bathroom 3: Bathroom with barrel vaulted ceiling, travertine basin, shower with rain shower head, wall decorated with antique Neapolitan "riggiole".
